Chelation therapy is a powerful, science-backed treatment designed to help remove heavy metals and toxins from the body. At The Longevity Centers of America, we use chelation as part of our holistic approach to optimizing health, restoring balance, and supporting long-term vitality.

What Exactly Is Chelation?

Chelation (pronounced “key-LAY-shun”) comes from the Greek word “chele,” meaning claw—a reference to how chelating agents bind to heavy metals in the bloodstream. Once these metals are bound, the body is able to safely eliminate them through urine.

Chelation is most commonly administered via intravenous (IV) infusion of a chelating compound that latches onto toxic metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium.

Who Can Benefit from Chelation Therapy?

While chelation therapy has long been used in cases of diagnosed heavy metal poisoning, it’s also increasingly used as part of integrative and preventative medicine. Potential candidates include individuals with:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Brain fog or memory issues
  • Known or suspected heavy metal exposure (e.g., from old dental work, water contamination, or environmental toxins)
  • Cardiovascular issues (chelation has shown promise in reducing arterial plaque)
  • Autoimmune conditions

Chelation & Cardiovascular Health

One of the most exciting areas of research around chelation is its impact on cardiovascular disease. The TACT (Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy), a large clinical trial sponsored by the NIH, found that chelation significantly reduced adverse cardiac events in patients with diabetes and previous heart attacks. This has opened the door for its use in heart health optimization protocols.

Why Chelation Matters Today

We live in an increasingly toxic world. Heavy metals are found in food, water, air, cosmetics, and industrial products. Over time, these toxins can accumulate in the body and interfere with mitochondrial function, immune regulation, hormone balance, and more.

Chelation therapy offers a way to “lighten the load,” allowing the body to repair, regenerate, and thrive.
